On June 8, 2016, the newest Russian passenger aircraft – MC-21 was rolled out at an official ceremony at the Irkutsk Aviation Plant. The MC-21 is one of key UAC civil aircraft programs. The official ceremony was attended by Mr. Dmitry Medvedev, the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, representatives of federal and regional authorities, heads of partner and supplier companies, delegations of current and potential MC-21 customers.
The unique assembly line, where the MC-21 aircraft are currently built, was demonstrated to the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation before the rollout ceremony. Mr. Dmitry Medvedev also observed the cockpit of the new aircraft.
The Head of the RF Government stated that this project “moves the whole country and our economy forward”. He emphasized that “there are not so many countries with developed aircraft engineering, it’s the so called “top league”, and we are to stay in it, that’s why we work for the future and will continue to renew the country's civil aviation fleet. The MC-21 technology level is superior to those civil aircraft of the same class which are now in operation. I’m sure it will be a very good machine, an economic and reliable one”.
Mr. Yury Slyusar, the President of United Aircraft Corporation, emphasized that “creation of the MC-21 aircraft is a result of great teamwork; it’s the first program, where the leading UAC enterprises (including Aviastar-SP and newly established AeroComposite and UAC-Integration Center) operated under a single plan. United Aircraft Corporation is creating a modern advanced production infrastructure. It includes centers of competences for key accessories and systems, wide cooperation for creation of products on the basis of digital design. The MC-21 is a product of upgraded Russian aircraft engineering”.
The MC-21 development gave a great technological boost to most UAC enterprises. Due to the MC-21 Program UAC’s manufacturing plants in Irkutsk, Ulyanovsk, Voronezh and Kazan received substantial technological upgrades. The most advanced automated aggregate and final assembly line in Russia has been installed at the Irkutsk Aviation Plant.
Mr. Oleg Demchenko, President of the Irkut Corporation said: “I would like to express my appreciation to designers, engineers, workers, partners – to everyone who works with us at hundreds of enterprises in Russia and abroad. We put into our aircraft not only the most advanced technologies, we put our hearts and souls in it”. He added that the most responsible stage is still ahead – the flight tests.
The United Aircraft Corporation (PJSC UAC as part of the Rostec State Corporation) will display new products and wide exposition at the International Aviation and Space Salon MAKS-2021, which will be held in Zhukovsky near Moscow on July 20-25.
